It is when experimentation meets the real-world organizational environment that the most challenging issues emerge.<\/p>\n<p>Four conditions occur particularly frequently:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>Lack of clear project ownership. first dimension concerns the relationship between an AI project and business objectives. A solid project starts with a clearly defined problem, an expected operational or business outcome, a shared priority, and clear accountability for decision-making and evaluating results. This allows the experiment to be assessed against a concrete objective rather than solely on its technical feasibility.<\/p>\n<h3>Data Readiness: Do We Have the Data Needed for the Process?<\/h3>\n<p>Data availability must be assessed under the conditions the system will actually encounter. A pilot may perform very well on around 50 documents but, once in production, need to process 35,000 or 50,000 unorganized files containing duplicates and conflicting information. It is at this stage that issues barely noticeable during experimentation can become critical.<\/p>\n<p>Data readiness concerns the quality, availability, accessibility, and governance of the data required for a specific process. There is no need to make the company&#8217;s entire data ecosystem perfect: the priority is to ensure that the data needed for the selected use case is reliable and usable.<\/p>\n<h3>Technology and Integration: Can AI Communicate with Business Systems?<\/h3>\n<p>An AI application rarely operates in isolation. To become part of a business process, it may need to read documents, query databases, retrieve information from CRM or ERP systems, update business applications, or trigger other actions. The assessment must therefore consider architecture, integrations, security, service availability, and the ability to manage the solution over time.<\/p>\n<h3>AI Skills: Can Employees Use and Evaluate the System?<\/h3>\n<p>Integrating AI into business processes requires people who can use the tools, understand their limitations, and evaluate their outputs. In many cases, this means being able to recognize incomplete or unusual responses, knowing when human verification is necessary, and understanding their role within the new process.<\/p>\n<p>AI readiness also includes training, operational responsibilities, and change management, ensuring that the introduction of technology is supported by clear usage guidelines and supervision criteria.<\/p>\n<h3>Business Processes: Have We Selected the Right Use Case?<\/h3>\n<p>Not all business processes offer the same conditions for AI adoption. A suitable candidate has a sufficient volume of activities, clearly identifiable rules, available data, and manageable risks.<\/p>\n<p>Assessing AI readiness also helps determine whether the selected process meets these criteria or whether it would be more effective to start in a different area. The selection criteria are described later in this article.<\/p>\n<h3>AI Governance: Are Roles, Risks, and Controls Defined from the Start?<\/h3>\n<p>Governance establishes the conditions under which an AI system can be used in a controlled manner: responsibilities, policies, human oversight, risk management, security, compliance, and monitoring.<\/p>\n<p>The assessment must also consider phenomena such as Shadow AI, which refers to the use of artificial intelligence tools outside company policies, as well as applicable privacy and security obligations.
