Integrated Video Surveillance Systems for Public Agencies and Enterprise Organizations

From design to installation to operational management.

Each system is designed based on the client’s actual objectives, the existing infrastructure, and the area in which it operates.

The project is based on an analysis of specific security requirements and the operational context.

For public agencies and enterprises, this means taking into account existing infrastructure, local conditions, and management and control requirements in order to build a coordinated, scalable system capable of evolving over time.

Physical Security and IT Infrastructure: Two Worlds That Need to Communicate

A modern video surveillance system is not simply a collection of cameras connected to a basic recorder

It is an integrated system that relies on the organization’s IT network, requires bandwidth scaled to the actual data flow of each camera, depends on the reliability of the power supply at each site, and must be designed to meet the specific operational objectives of its users.

Abacus Managed Services designs and installs IP video surveillance systems for public agencies and enterprise organizations, always starting with an analysis of the objectives and existing infrastructure. We don’t just sell equipment—we design systems that work.

HOW IT WORKS

Three components. None of them can be undersized.

The quality of a video surveillance system depends on the balance among three components. If even one of them is poorly designed, the entire system suffers: degraded images, incomplete archives, and systems that go offline during critical hours.

  1. The choice of cameras starts with the objectives, not the catalog
The D.O.R.I. system (Detection, Observation, Recognition, Identification) defines the minimum performance requirements for each camera position based on distance and purpose: detecting a presence, observing behavior, recognizing a person, or identifying them with certainty. These parameters guide the selection of lens, resolution, compression, and field of view. A camera that does not meet the specifications cannot be corrected in post-production.
  2. The power supply for sites must be designed, not assumed
Power supply points in outlying areas, on road infrastructure, or in environments without a stable power supply require battery systems sized according to the site’s actual load and the required operating hours. Each site is calculated individually: an undersized safety margin results in outages during the very hours when the system is most needed.
  3. The transmission network must be calculated; it cannot be improvised
The data flow from each IP camera can be accurately estimated based on its resolution and the compression method used. An undersized transmission network results in delays, frame loss, and incomplete archives. Abacus designs the transmission network for each specific route, using fiber-optic solutions or high-capacity point-to-point radio links where fiber is not feasible, and verifies coverage and capacity prior to installation.

From Assessment to Implementation

An effective system does not arise from the sum of its parts, but from the coherence with which each element is designed and made to work together. For this reason, the project is approached as a single, integrated process, in which every technical decision addresses specific needs and contributes to the reliability of the entire system, from the initial survey through to full operation.

Every project begins with a technical site survey: mapping observation points, assessing the existing network infrastructure, and analyzing the terrain and operational requirements. The project proposal documents every technical decision, including the rationale, transmission bandwidth calculations, storage capacity sizing, and the testing plan.

Installation is performed by Abacus’s in-house technical staff, with no subcontractors involved in any critical phases. The acceptance testing verifies the performance of each camera against the operational objectives defined during the design phase. The final documentation includes operating instructions and a maintenance plan.

Video surveillance systems are integrated into the organization’s IP network, including the configuration of access policies, the segmentation of the video network from general IT traffic, and connection to centralized storage and viewing systems. The transmission network can leverage the existing Abacus connectivity infrastructure.

DIFFERENTIATORS

Why Abacus Managed Services
s for Video Surveillance

A design-oriented, non-commercial approach

The choice of equipment is based on the design, not the other way around. Each system is sized to meet the customer’s operational objectives.

Compliance with CEI EN 62676

The European reference standard for video surveillance systems serves as the methodological foundation for all our designs.

D.O.R.I. System Applied to Every Camera Location

Cameras are selected based on the performance required for each specific objective, not on price or stock availability.

Transmission network calculated based on actual data flow

Fiber or radio links sized based on the actual data for each room. No generic estimates: each segment is verified before installation.

Native integration with the Abacus platform

The video surveillance system’s transmission network integrates natively with the connectivity and IT infrastructure already managed by Abacus for the same client.

In-house management, no subcontractors

Site surveys, design, installation, and testing are carried out entirely by in-house technical staff.

Projects completed with leading manufacturers in the market

Projects completed with leading manufacturers in the market—Hikvision, Dahua, Hanwha, Avigilon, Geovision, and Selea: the choice of vendor is based on the project’s requirements, not on an exclusive distribution agreement.
